How Maradona blew Lionel Messi’s World Cup dream.

It’s really hard for a player like Lionel Messi to hold a team through a single tournament. It was not a boast, but a statement of truth, and in every aspect he did that.. But in those days, everybody expected that the little genius would run the show alone. If you are a fan of Messi, you will head a nod to think without questioning the weight of that statement. Maradona, Argentina fans will tell you, he sweats blood for his country.

Once the whistle blew up Messi himself went down and with his hands on his knees in complete exhaustion. There was one blank space on his CV, though, and 2014 was the year it was to be filled. Whether football owes Messi a World Cup or not, the pressure on the little genius is going to swell to its maximum when Argentina kicks off.

They were vital goals, most important the injury-time winner against Iran and his pass to Angel di Maria, in the penultimate minute of extra time, to beat Switzerland in the round of 16. The long-haired and temperamental Cannigia went on to say that Messi doesn’t receive as much support from his teammates in the national team as Maradona did. Whether that’s true or not, one thing is for sure – Messi will not be able to do it on his own. Maradona is loved by his countrymen for having delivered the World Cup to them. The medals and awards bore testimony to that, as did the adoration of his army of fans in Barcelona and right across the globe, Bangalore to Boston. If you’re a neutral, I’d expect you to mildly raise an eyebrow and debate the thought.

He modified his style, not running around the stadium but taking his time; He drifted in and out of matches but his four goals in the group stage – four times the number of goals scored in two previous sessions – indicated that the radar was fully operational. . I safely assume that there are no Messi haters, and that’s why I won’t get to what they thought about. And joining Messi on that list are names like Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel di Maria and Xavier Mascherano are among the few people who were all great game servants and will look forward to redemption with so much longing.
